Product details

ROUSTRIN F 10 Rosuvastatin (10mg), Fenofibron (160mg) ROUSTRIN F is a therapeutic approach often used to enhance lipid profile modulation in patients with mixed dyslipidemia, a condition characterized by high levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, triglycerides, and low levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. ROUSTRIN F targets different aspects of the lipid profile to provide a more comprehensive lipid-lowering effect. Rosuvastatin Class: Statin (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor) Uses: Primarily lowers LDL cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood while raising HDL cholesterol. It's effective in reducing the risk of atherosclerosis (plaque buildup in arteries) and subsequent cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes. Mechanism: Works by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase in the liver, which plays a crucial role in cholesterol synthesis. This results in decreased cholesterol levels in the body. Side Effects: Common side effects include muscle pain, headache, nausea, and weakness. Serious but rare side effects include muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis) and liver damage. Fenofibrate Class: Fibric acid derivative (Fibrate) Uses: Primarily used to lower triglyceride levels and, to a lesser extent, increase HDL cholesterol. It's particularly effective in patients with very high levels of triglycerides. Mechanism: Activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), which in turn increase the oxidation of fatty acids and reduce the synthesis of triglycerides in the liver. This leads to a decrease in triglyceride levels and a modest increase in HDL cholesterol. Side Effects: Common side effects include gastrointestinal issues, liver function abnormalities, and an increased risk of gallstones. Like statins, fibrates can also cause muscle problems, including pain and weakness. Combined Use Rationale: The combination is used when monotherapy with either statins or fibrates is insufficient to control both LDL and triglyceride levels, offering a more aggressive approach to managing mixed dyslipidemia. It can be particularly beneficial in patients with a significant risk of cardiovascular disease who have not achieved their lipid targets with single-agent therapy. Considerations: There's an increased risk of muscle toxicity, including myopathy and rhabdomyolysis, when statins and fibrates are used together. This risk is relatively low but requires careful patient selection and monitoring. Monitoring: Patients on this combination therapy should have their lipid levels, liver enzymes, and kidney function monitored regularly. Additionally, patients should be advised to report any symptoms of muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness, as well as signs of liver problems (e.g., yellowing of the skin or eyes, abdominal pain).
