TORSIP 40 mg Torsemide 40 mg TORSIP is a loop diuretic of the pyridine-sulfonylurea class, used primarily to manage edema associated with congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, and renal disease, including nephrotic syndrome. It is also utilized in the treatment of hypertension, either alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents. Torsemide works by inhibiting the sodium-potassium-chloride cotransporter in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle in the kidneys. This action prevents sodium, chloride, and water reabsorption, leading to increased urine production (diuresis), which decreases fluid in the body, lowering blood pressure and reducing edema. Mechanism of Action: TORSIP inhibits the Na+/K+/2Cl- cotransporter in the kidney, leading to a decrease in the reabsorption of sodium and chloride ions, and therefore, an increase in the output of water. This mechanism not only reduces fluid overload but also contributes to a decrease in blood pressure, making it useful for treating hypertension.
